Good news: the Governors of the University of Alberta has ratified the Tentative Agreement that NASA members ratified last week.
This means that some monetary increases will take effect from May 12, 2025:
- new Weekend Differential ($2 per hour)
- increases to Standby Pay (from $40 to $50 and $55 to $65)
- increases to Meal Allowances (from $7 to $15 for breakfast, $15 for lunch, or $30 for dinner)
- the addition of coverage of implants under Major Restorative in the Dental Plan
- increase to the annual allotment for the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) (from $750 to $1,000)
Any other changes that provide for improved terms and conditions will also take effect as of May 12, 2025.
Retroactive pay increases of 3% each will be effective April 1, 2024 and April 1, 2025.
Retroactive pay will be issued to all current employees, regardless of Employee Type, based on the following payment schedule:
- June 1-15 pay period: June 24 pay date
- Employees (active and on paid leave) will receive the retro salary increase from April 1, 2024
- June 16-30 pay period: July 10 pay date
- Employees (active and on paid leave) will receive the retro salary increase from April 1, 2025
- New updated salary rates will be applied from the June 16 pay period onward.
Please let any former co-workers whose employment ended after April 1, 2024 know that the agreement has been ratified. They will need to reach out to U of A (via Shared Services, Staff Centre) and advise HR that they are seeking to be paid what they are due. If they have trouble getting this payment, they should reach out to the NASA Labour Relations Officer (LRO) who is assigned to their former department for assistance.
Note that the changes to the Employee Types (the merging of all Casual types) will not be in effect until April 1, 2026.
