Effective October 1, 2023, your NASA benefits plan will now cover psychological services! The services of a registered psychologist or a registered social worker will be added to the existing paramedical practitioner coverage in the health plan.
Expenses incurred on or after October 1, 2023 can be submitted to Sun Life. Existing support from the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) will not change. Adding psychological coverage to the health plan allows members the autonomy to seek the support that works best for them.
The plan will cover 100% of the "reasonable and customary charge" for services to a maximum of $1,000 per insured person for each type of eligible practitioner in a year. Keep in mind that the total for paramedical services will be limited to a combined annual maximum reimbursement cap of $2,500 per year per insured person. This means you, as a member, your spouse, and each of your dependents will have access to up to $1,000 each for these new practitioners. A referral by a physician is not required. A practitioner registration number is required for an expense to be eligible for coverage.
The change to the support staff plan was reviewed and approved by the Support Staff Benefits Committee (SSBC). More information on the SSBC can be found in Appendix B of the collective agreement.
Note: Due to a delay with the Sun Life system, please wait until after October 20 to submit claims for a registered social worker practitioner.
