April 28 is observed annually as the National Day of Mourning for workers who died on the job or from illnesses acquired in the workplace. According to the official numbers accepted by the Workers' Compensation Board, 203 Alberta workers were killed as a result of workplace injuries or illnesses—and increase of almost 25% from the previous year.
Family, friends, co-workers, and the broad labour community will once again gather in Grant Notley Park at the Broken Families Monument for the Edmonton & District Labour Council's annual Day of Mourning commemoration event.
Monday, April 28, 11:00 am-1:00 pm
Grant Notley Park (116 St & 100 Ave)
We encourage NASA members to please take the time on April 28 to acknowledge those we've lost or attend the ceremony if you are able. If you plan to attend the ceremony, the EDLC asks that you RSVP on their website so they know how much food to provide for ceremony and catered lunch on April 28.
